Yankees SP Alfredo Aceves was solid again today, allowing only 3 hits and 1 run in 4 innings of work in a split squad game against the Orioles. While he has not officially moved into the lead for the #5 spot in the Yankees rotation he has impressed manager Joe Girardi. “Ahead in the count all day for the most part. Used all his pitches. Changed speeds. In and out. He’s just doing what he does,” Girardi said. “What I’m most happy about, he’s ahead in the count all the time.”
Analysis:
Landing the #5 spot would certainly enhance Aceves’ value. Until the Yankees’ 5th starter is announced, Aceves, Joba Chamberlain, and Phil Hughes should only be drafted as RP
