Cubs Agree with Dempster

The Chicago Cubs and free-agent pitcher Ryan Dempster reached agreement on a multiyear contract that will keep the two-time All Star in Chicago, the Chicago Sun-Times said. Dempster, who won 17 games for Chicago this past season, will likely get at least $52 million over four years, the newspaper said, citing people it didn't identify. He's expected to sign the contract later today, the Sun-Times said.

Dempster was a big surprise this season and provided consistency for fantasy owners as he kept his ERA down to 2.96 on the season. The Cubs will return another very solid offense that should provide good run support for Dempster in '09 so get ready to draft him earlier than you have in the past.
