While working on command of his changeup, Phillies SP Joe Blanton threw 4 shutout innings, allowing only 3 hits. “I’ve never really done it this way, but my changeup was so big for me last year that I really want to get good command of it on both sides of the plate to both righties and lefties before I move on,” Blanton said.
Analysis:
Blanton is known as an innings-eater and still walks too many batters (career 2.6 BB/9 rate) to be anything more than a #6 SP in mixed leagues or a #4 in NL-only leagues. Draft him accordingly.
