Breaking It Down – Guzman Traded To Texas

The Rangers continue to load up for the post-season and they added middle infield depth when they traded for Cristian Guzman today.  Let’s take a look at the fantasy player value changes:

Cristian Guzman – He should play 2B most days while Ian Kinsler is on the DL.  That means that he can be used in deep mixed leagues for the next two weeks or more.  Once Kinsler returns, Guzman is going to have very little value.  He will back up 2B and SS and that’s it.  If you use Guzman, start looking for other options to plug in by the middle of August.

Joaquin Arias – He was expected to fill in for Kinsler but now he will go back to a backup role.  If you picked him up for short-term use, you can throw him back on waivers.

Adam Kennedy/Ian Desmond – With Guzman out of the way these two will both play everyday for the rest of the season.  Kennedy showed last year that he can steal some bases and help owners in deeper leagues when he gets regular playing time.
