David Freese is expected to miss 9-12 weeks after being hit by a Scott Linebrink fastball this past Sunday. With a broken hand diagnosis given, it has now been determined that Freese will need substantial time to fully recover.
Analysis It’s a shame, as Freese was on fire as of late, hitting .375/.407/.500 in 80 at-bats. The bigger worry for fantasy owners now, though, especially those in NL-only leagues, is who to pick up for 3B (Ryan Zimmerman and Pablo Sandoval are also on the DL, meaning several of the “B-team” type guys have already been snatched up). The free agent field isn’t promising, either, as the top 3B currently owned in less than 50% of all Yahoo! Public Leagues are Alberto Callaspo (24%), Jhonny Peralta (28%), Chase Headley (17%), Edwin Encarnación (7%) and the much discussed Ian Stewart (24%). Mixed league owners should continue to pray for Mike Moustakas‘ eventual callup.
