Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jeff Francis had surgery in February 2009 to repair a torn labrum and it wasn’t until August that he began to feel pain free. The Rockies expect some positive long-term results from Francis’ injury rehab. He has worked extensively on strengthening the shoulder under the guidance of Rockies trainer Keith Dugger, and he’s made some alterations to his delivery that should take some strain off his arm over time.
Analysis:
Francis is just a few years removed from the 17-9 record and 4.22 ERA he posted back in ‘07 and will take the place of Jason Marquis, who signed a two-year deal with Washington. While I do not expect to see Francis match his 2007 stats, he should be a serviceable option this season.
