Pirates SP Daniel McCutchen helped himself in his bid to earn the 5th spot in the Pittsburgh rotation by throwing 2 perfect innings in yesterday’s 3-2 Spring Training loss to the Orioles. He also struck out two. “He was sharp,” Pirates manager John Russell said. “He’s a command-type guy, and I think each outing he’s going to do better. He was on.”
Analysis:
McCutchen reminds me of Brad Radke and Kevin Slowey, which works better in the National League. When his control is on he will pitch very well and will have 5-6 K’s per game. NL-only league owners should keep track of him to see if he lands the rotation spot, as he could be a cheap #4/5 SP in NL-only leagues.
