Marlin’s ace Josh Johnson flirted with a no-hitter, bewildering the Atlanta Braves into the 8th inning, until rookie first-baseman Freddie Freeman smacked a double to left. Johnson was then relieved by Ryan Webb who did a fine job closing out the inning. The only run given up was by reliever Randy Choate who, given responsibility for the 9th inning with a 5 run lead, allowed a home run by Braves third baseman Chipper Jones.
Analysis: Johnson’s been superb in the early going, posting three solid outings in a row now. His strike-out rate improving with each start, Johnson posted 9 k’s in his 7.1 innings of work today, and remains a must-start in all formats.
