Strasburg Solid vs. Tigers Today

Nationals rookie pitcher Stephen Strasburg looked fairly sharp in his spring training debut vs. the Detroit Tigers. One quick Strasburg thought: The most impressive pitch he threw may have been his last. On 3-2 to Brent Dlugach, he twirled an 81-mph breaking ball (it moves like a curve, and he calls it a slider; let’s go with breaking ball from now on). Dlugach just froze for strike three. And this was after Strasburg had allowed two straight singles — both relative cheapies — and thrown three straight balls to Dlugach. Once faced with an adverse cirumstance, Strasburg was able to rely on an offspeed pitch when he really needed a strike…
